German shepherds can live 10 to 12 years, and they are not generally prone to health issues, except for occasional hip and joint issues in their later years and sometimes ear infections, due to their very large ears. German shepherds are good with kids because they’re naturally protective, loyal, friendly, affectionate, intelligent, confident, and full of energy.
Children visiting the home of a german shepherd should be taught ground rules for respecting their space. The reality, however, is that while a german shepherd should be supervised when in the presence of children outside the family, within the family there is truly no better friend to your kids.
